His Excellency Richard Yates

Sir Your note of the 5th inst in relation with discharge from service of John Grenning 30th. Regt Ill. Vols. is received. In reply I have to state that he was ordered to join his Regiment for duty Feby 11th. 1863 and by his request was permitted to do so by way of R.Road through Springfield to Cairo. He was in good health and able for field service.
