Glen [Anne?] March 20th 1863.

Gov Yates Sir.

My son Rowland Cox (Private) Co I., Anderson Cavalry x, is the only representative of the State of Illinois in in that Regt & has added his mite to the glory of the State, by being one of the “Noble 300” who were in front of the fight at Murfreesboro 5 days & having his name placed upon the Roll of Honor. In view of this & his ability for usefulness, both from education & devotion to our blessed Cause may I ask for him, the position of Major or Lieut.?

Very respectfully

Anne I. Cox.
