To his excellency Richard Yates Gov of Ill

Dear Sir

Prompted by my own feelings and by request of citizens resident at this place. I feel it to be my duty to inform you of certain matters that are taking place here --- today (Sat Mch 21st) there is a Boddy of men drilling for the purpose of being better able to resist the Laws of our Nation-- They hold their musters, South of here some eight or ten miles-- this morning Nine Horsemen passed through here in a body – to all appearances going to join their Friends at the place of mustering. They come from the North of us, from a neighborhood that is much disaffected – You may have been apprised of these doings from other sources, but not knowing whether you were or not, have taken the Liberty of addressing you. We should be pleased to hear from you and to learn if any steps are being taken to counteract their Devlish designs
