Gov Yates

Dear Sir permit me totrouble you with a word concerning Capt Dunkin of the 32d Regt Ills Inft who was severly wounded resulting in the loss of one leg below the knee at the battle of Mattemora last fall In that desperate engagement he was among the foremost leading his men to charge the enemies batteries when he fell, he would be glad to serve longer but cannot on foot. Would he not make a good Provos Marshall for our district!

The health and spirits of the old "fighting fourth" was never better

Very Respectfully

Your Obdt Serv

Wm. S. Edgar Surg 32d Ills
