U.S. Army General Hospitle
Baltimore Md. April 2nd/63
-Gov Yates
Sir
I take the liberty to write you a few lines concerning myself, my health has been very poor for the last twelve month, I was sent to the Hospitle last September. I was on the sick list about three months before I left the regiment, and my lungs being affected I dont get any better and yet it seems Impossible to get either a furlough or a discharge I have been in the service nineteen months I enlisted in the 8th Ill. Cav at Woodstock McHenry Co, there seems to be a great deal of partiality shown here between the new troops and old troops the [Qrs?] will discharge a nine months man where they wont look at an old soldier and there being but few western troops here I think myself slighted, and Sir
If you can do anything for me I should esteem it as a great favour.
From your most obedient Servt
