His Excellency,

Gov. Yates,

Dear Sir,

Mr Harper who will hand you this note desires a position in a Cavalry Regiment

He entered the service as a private in the 4" Cavalry not long after this he was made 2d Lieut & being wounded at the battle of Shiloh, he was made 1st Lieut. For a while he was Maj. Bowman's battalion adjutant

He is a first rate young man and would fill with credit most any position in a cavalry regiment. If you can give him a place, I should be glad
