Hon Richard Yates
Governor of Illinois
Dear Sir
Although a private soldier allow me to adress a few lines to you. I have been in the service of the United States for the past ten months and six months of that time I have been unable to perform any duty whatever in my Company. I have Surgeons certificates of disability but cannot get them acted upon because they were not made in this district. And if you deem me not asking to much you will confer a lasting favor by lending your aid in my behalf in securing for me a discharge from the service.
I have the honor to be Governor.
Your Obt Servant
