His Excellency Governor Yates

Dear Sir The hard times & politics has left me out of business and embarrased which makes me very desirous of some public employment. I spent time and money during the canvas but got defeated by Eighty votes. the general ticket was beaten in our County about 250 votes. Will you be kind enough to give me a recommendation to the President. I would like some Land office Indian or Mail agency. clerkship or anything that would pay for time & responsibility involving such duties as I could perform faithfully. Again I hold the commission of Col. in the Malitia and if I could get attached to some of the regiments as Commisary, Quarter Master or some place that one of my age and capacity could fill I would be proud to serve the Country and would do so with fidelity. The crisis demand men & means I wish to do my part. Your attention to the above would lay me under lasting obligation - please write me

Yours Very Respectfully
