Gov Yates

Dr Sir On my way this morn from Centralia I fell in co with Hon G Y Atkison a member of the Legislature of Indiana. He informed me that he was in Jackson Tenesee yesterday and heard Judge Milton Brown of that place address the citizens - that the tenor of the address, was that every man should enlist and march at once with the view of taking Cairo - that he stired up the greatest enthusiasm & that he had but little doubt, but that an armed force quite formidable would be thrown against Cairo. He also stated that they were wanting armes & that every means will be resorted to, to procure them - I have but little doubt of their intention upon Cairo - they must have provisions & to obtain them, they must have this point - This point & Washington may be the great battle grounds. Hon H W Blodgett from Lake will tell you who I am -

In much haste - Yours & c
