Dear Sir

I have received your kind letter of August 15th The chaplains are recommended for appointment by the colonels of regiments and were you so recommended I should take great pleasure in making an appointment designating you as a chaplain

Very sincerely

Richd Yates

P.S. The Chaplains are appointed by the Colonels upon the recommendation of the Captains

of the companies. I will most cheerfully recommend you as I may have opportunity but my time is very much taken up. I think your best plan would be to see some of the Captains and get them to use their influence

Hoping that you may be successful I am

Truly Your Friend
