Dear Sir

My brother S. Rush Haven was appointed by B. G. R. K. Swift assistant surgeon in 2d B. I. Vol and left here with the troops on Sunday night last for Cairo, where he now is.

I see by the act to be passed those acting in the Regiments are first to Receive a certificate from the Board of Examiners and then to be commissioned by your Excellency I believe my brother will be found competent. I know he is brave and patriotic &c, and therefore respectfully solicit your Excellency to allow him to be placed where he can serve the country in this hour of her great peril. And will remain your
