Hon Richard Yates, Govnor of Illinois

My Dear Sir, I take this mode of addressing you for the purpose of tendering my Services to you and my Country, If I am over bold, be so kind as to overlook it, in view of my anxiety to do somthing for my native country, I wish to get a Situation as a Surgeon to some company now raised to prosecute this war. My friends have influenced me to take this method as the surest to gain my desired office, if you can accomodate me with it I will be most thankfull


I ask not for any remuneration for my services, all I wish is to be furnished with the necessary articles peculiar to my profession, money is not my wish, If I can do anything in the name of Humanity, I will be Satisfied.

If Your Excelency can do anything for me, Please be so kind as to inform me as soon as possible how I shall proceed to gain the object
