Description
Noah M. Mason began his career as a teacher in Oglesby, Illinois, serving as the Oglesby Superintendent of Schools from 1908-1936. During that time he also served as the Oglesby City Commissioner from 1918-1926 and as a member of the Illinois State Normal School Board from 1926-1930. He was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1930, serving until 1936 when he won his first election to the United States House of Representatives. Mason served in the House of Representatives from 1937-1963. During his time in office he championed low federal spending and states rights. He was a member of the House Un-American Activities Committee from 1938-1945 and was a supporter of Senator Joseph McCarthy's anti-Communist activities. Mason retired from the House of Representatives in 1963.
