That some of the rail road companies in the state have established tarriffs that bear unequally on the producers in different localities is quite certain, I however doubt not but measures might be taken to harmonize a seeming conflict between these two great interests that would prove mutually beneficial, and be satisfactory to all parties interested I have not seen the bill and therefore do not know whether its provisions are calculated to meet the object contemplated or not. I see that it provides for the appointment of three Commissioners to carry into effect its provisions. The President ought in consistency to continue me in the command of this expedition. I believe he desires to do so, and perhaps is unadvised that I am relieved of it. The Governors of Ind.
