Sir,

The 49th entered the field without any regular Regimental Colors. The Company flag, belonging to Co "H" has been used as a Regimental Flag. It having been in the battles of Donselson and Shiloh and in constant use during the last Sixteen months. has become much worn, It now becomes necessary that the 49th should have a new stand of colors. Understanding that the State of Illinois has furnished the new Regiments with colors, and as this Regiment has never received any from the State of Illinois, I request a stand of colors form the State if consistent.

Hoping you will be able to comply with my request I have the honor to be

commission for assault with intent to kill upon the person of a fellow teamster some weeks ago. It seems that in a quarrel he struck the man in the head with a club, injuring him so badly as to cause much doubt of his recovery
