R Yates, </p><p>Dear Sir, </p><p>Father desires me to write to you, (as he is not able to write) requesting your assistance in obtaining a discharge from the army, for a young man, who has been sick nearly a year. The young man, Ebenezer Bradley, enlisted as a private in Co B. Capt Mann (now under Capt Stafford) 124th Reg Ills. Vol. commanded by Col. Sloan - Sep. 1862. Mr. Bradley was taken sick while doing duty on a Commissary boat, on the Yazoo River, during the siege of Vicksburg. He was taken sick the latter part of May, but remained with the army, until August, I believe, when he came home on furlough; was unable to return South, but has sent certificates from physicians, of his health, according to law. </p> <hr /> <p>Dr. Angel, Regimental Surgeon of 124th saw Mr. Bradley recently in Aurora, and gave Mr. Bradley a certificate stating his inability to perform any service as a soldier. </p><p>Mr. Bradley is a son of Deacon Bradley, of Batavia, one of the best men, and most patriotic citizens of Kane Co. Another son is now doing good service in the army near Vicksburg. </p><p>Mr. Bradley would have no desire to leave the army, if he were able to perform any labor, but in addition to the camp diarrhea, he has had chills and fever all Winter, and a very troublesome cough. </p><p>Will you be so kind as to return this letter to Father, with your endorsement (or whatever you think best), at your earliest convenience, that Dea Bradley may forward the same to Vicksburg.
