I fell sure our governer will take every advantage to prevent a drafft in our justly proud State.

You may ask why I have not gone before the board at Washington for the examination of persons aspiring to such positions. I will say I did procure such permission from that Bureau but I was here at the time of its recipt. and could not procure a leave from Gen Butler to go to Washington for examination. I would also rather serve in my own state troops. Sir, I solicit your influence in this because I know your heart is in the cause because you represent our Co. in our national legislature If in this matter you can lend

Governor.

By this days Express I have the honor to forward to your Excellency my report of sick and wounded Soldiers belonging to Illinois regiments who have been admitted to Hospitals in and near this City and there visited by my agents from April 1st 1864 to July 1st 1864: together with such Transfers, Returns to Duty, Discharges and Deaths as have occurred during the same period. The delay in the rendition of my report has been occasioned by the greatly increased number of sick and wounded men who have been admitted into Hospitals in and near this City from the battle fields of the Army of the Potomac and elsewhere during the last three months demanding a large amount of additional labor in their visitation and care as well as in gathering and preparing the necessary material for State reports.

This report is entirely independant

of the number of Soldiers who have been received and cared for at the New England Soldiers Relief Association having reference to the Admissions and final dispositions of Illinois Soldiers in hospitals in and near this city during the past three months.

The number of U. S. A. hospitals now visited by my agents has been increased to thirteen to accomodate the additional number of sick, wounded and worn out soldiers who have been sent here for treatment: the names and location of such hospitals please find on Schedule accompanying. The report herewith furnished your Excellency has been prepared with care trusting that while it may be acceptable as an official document from its detail of facts it will afford to those of your citizens more closely interested in its names a fund of interesting information and a relief from suspense and anxiety

Gov Yates

My dear sir

The loyal people of this part of the state, view with alarm the persistant designs of men who call themselves Democrats---but who are really without a name save that of traitor to our country, and we feel that in order to resist their well organized plots---we should prepare ourselves for whatever they may have in store for us, by arming & drilling in each neighborhood & thus showing to our enemies at home & abroad that we are in earnest in what we profess---viz---the restoration of our beloved country. we therefore ask, that two hundred stand of arms be sent us by the state of Illinois for which we will be responsible for their return when all danger is over.

Our enemies are armed & we should not delay as the welfare of our state depends on a counteracting influance & that speedily. I write at the urgent request of the Loyal League of Warren.
