Kempel, was severely wounded in the battle near Marietta Georgia, on the 27th day of June 1864. He has four holes in his right shoulder. He was taken from the battle field and sent to the Hospital at Nashville Tennessee where he remained for a number of weeks. He has recently been transferred to Joe Holt Hospital, Jeffersonville Ind, where he now is. He has also been very sick, but is getting better so that he is able to get about. I would most respectfully ask your Honor, to grant permission, or if necessary, use your influence, to have <hr /> my husband, Charles B. Kempel, transferred to Camp Butler at Springfield Ills. The occasion was this, that, out of a committee of seven, you had placed upon the committee very prominant Gentlemen from almost every other denomination of Christiasn except - the Methodist Church, which is the most numerous, and influential <hr /> of any other in the state, and too, the church that has done more for education in the state than any other. You know that there are always efforts made by these church men to draw these institutions under their patronage. In this instance it should not be done, and as our friends say they only want to watch to see that this is not done. I am requested to say to you, that if it is consistent with your views of propriety, that you add two members to the committee and make it Nine instead of seven. The names of Revd.
