Colonel in one of the new Regiments now being raised in the State. I do not flatter myself that I can be of any assistance to him in the premises. But as he requests me to write to your Excellency in his behalf, I take pleasure in bearing testimony to the fact that all I have ever known or heard of Mr. Townes is decidedly in his favor, and I do not doubt that his appointment would be eminently a proper one, and well deserved by Gallant </p> <hr /> <p>conduct in the field.
