Donelson, & commanded a company there. I was through the two days battle at Shiloh. I was aide-de-camp to Gen. Oglesby in the siege of Corinth, & was in several skirmishes with the enemy's pickets. I am able not only to drill a regiment & instruct its officers in administration duties, so as to make it thoroughly & permanently effective, but I can also <hr /> handle it to advantage in battle. Grier of my Regiment, should be appointed and transferred, to the command of a Regiment organizing there; I take pleasure in bearing witness to his worth, and feel convinced, that the Service would be greatly benefitted by his appointment, as he has been tried in every way since he joined us with his company, and in every instance acquitted himself to the entire satisfaction of every one.
