</p><p>Dear Sir,
</p><p>I respectfully but earnestly ask your attention to the case of my son Monroe A. Comman, a Corporal in the 9th Reg. Ills. Vol, Co. I, who after fighting all day in the battle of Fort Donellson on February 15, was taken prisoner while attending to his wounded comrades, and taking down south, where he has suffered great hardships, and is now quite weak from a severe and protracted attack of billious fever, he was paroled and reached Washington on the 21st of October, and has been sent to Camp Banks parolled prisoners near Alexandria Va, Mitchel's Corps.
</p><p>What I ask in the matter is whether you would have the kindness to have him furloughed until his health is established, I very much fear he will sink
</p>

<p>under the exposure incident to his present position.
</p><p>When I tell you that his Brother was killed bravely fighting for his country at the Battle of Antietam you will understand the anxiety we feel about him, and will excuse my importunity.
</p><p>I address you because I do not know how else to accomplish this object. If you cannot assist me in this matter, perhaps you can inform me where to apply.
</p><p>I ask your <u>prompt</u> attention to this request, as I fear his life is in danger from his present exposed position.

Major Standaw, to give Military instruction in the College.-- And the College would gladly acknowledge its obligation to Gov Yates for his recommendation of the Major.

all the students shall engage in it.
They have progressed as far as
they can advantageously without

</p><p>it is some time since I have wrote to you and I thought take this oportunity to do so I am laying at Louisville in the Barracks not fit for duty I am just able to get around and help myself we started from the regment with the expectations of coming home but they would not let us pass here on the paper that the doctor gave us we are waiting for an examingation but I do not know as we will get it I never will be good for anything here and they might as well discharge me as not - this is rather a hard place to lay on the floor with

<p>it is some time since I have wrote to you and I thought take this oportunity to do so I am laying at Louisville in the Barracks not fit for duty I am just able to get around and help myself we started from the regment with the expectations of coming home but they would not let us pass here on the paper that the doctor gave us we are waiting for an examingation but I do not know as we will get it I never will be good for anything here and they might as well discharge me as not - this is rather a hard place to lay on the floor with</p>

<p>nothing under me but one blanket I have such pains in my breath sometimes think I can hardly breathe and I have got such a lame back that I can hardly straiten myself up I cannot stand it much longer here before I will be down so that I cannot help myself at all if this doctor dose not examine us to day we are agoing to see another one and all what we can do there I hope I will get out of this before a great while as that I can come home it is awfull lonsome here there is plenty of company to be sure but not such as I want to associate with I would rather be home soldiering is verry</p>

<p>good buisness as long as a man is well but when he gets sick he might as well be dead for he gets knocked around pretty hard I am getting worse every day insted of better no man can get well here</p>
<p>if they do not do something for me pretty soon I shall apply to the Govenor of the state of Ill and see what he will do about it if Father would write to him I think he could get something done for me he knows just how I have been and he can tell all about it there is nothing more to write at pressant you must take care of yourself and I will try to do the same I may have to lay here</p>
