My furlough expired on the 10th ult. As I am not ale to return I hardly know what course to pursue.

I have not drawn any pay since the last of Dec 1861.

If you can, and feel so disposed,

I should be glad if you would send a pass for a friend to go down & attend to my affairs.

The Surgeon who attended me at St. Louis told me that I would not be able for military duty again. If I am not I shall want a discharge, but if I do get able I am going back. I wish to know the proper course to pursue.

I hope you will excuse the liberty I have taken in writing to you.

I was wounded at the battle of Pittsburgh Landing in my left Foot. Two toes were shattered, rendering amputation necessary

I am now able to get around some upon crutches. I have sent a certificate of disability regularly once a month to my Captain, - Truman L Pratt & have not recd. any answer.

Yours for the Union

During the Civil War the school relocated to Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. In 1859 Chicago entrepreneur and Presbyterian layman Cyrus H. The relationship between the McCormick family and the school remained well into the twentieth century. Shortly after McCormick’s death in 1884, the school was renamed McCormick Theological Seminary. Several campus buildings are named for McCormick family members including McCormick Hall, Fowler Hall, and Virginia Library.

After Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination in 1968, seminary faculty and students were active in the civil rights movement and provided assistance to displaced and injured participants. The seminary relocated to Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood in 1975.

The photographs in this collection include portraits of the McCormick Theological Seminary Class of 1896, school professors, and campus buildings.
</text>
