He has been long afflicted with a rheumatic affection in his hip which often confines him to his bed for weeks at a time. We intended to get a substitute if he should be drafted, but I find from todays paper that substituted will not be received. I am 70 years old, have two sons in the Union Army in Ky and this one is all I have left to take care of me in my last moments. If you know of any way that will exempt him please let me know.
