Sir- Although seeking a position, I know the demands upon your time, and will be brief. I hereby apply for a commission as Lt. Col or Major, on either Field or Staff duty. My qualifications are - I have been over a year in service, have acted as Instructor in both Infantry & Cavalry Regiments, am even tempered, well drilled & temperate, and have a Collegiate and legal education. I am well posted in the "Tactics" for drill, and in the "Regulations" for papers and accounts, and having been under, & associated with Regular Officers for the past nine months, have a tolerable knowledge of Army customs.
