&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Sir  as chairman of a committee of the Board of Supervisors of this county, I write you or to the proper state officer through you for information
&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Our board of supervisors at a special Session held last may appropriated Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) for "war purposes" so much of said appropriation as might be needed to the amount of Two Thousand Dollars ($2000) was specially appropriated to assist in inlisting soldiers and procuring the necessary out fit and supplies not then furnished by the State
&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There has been some 8 or 10 companies of infantry and cavalry sent from this county.  The board of Supervisors paid $400. towards uniforms for Capt Ellis Co raised under the [Ten?] Regiment
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;hr /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;they have also expended some $800 in furnishing board to recruits for a few days Each after being mustered into the companies. prior to their leaving for the state encampments vouchers for which have been signed by the Captains of the several companies
&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;we do not desire to get rid of paying any part of the $10,000 appropriation, but if we can recover back from the state so much as we have paid out for the above purposes or any part thereof, there will be so much more of our fund to be applied to its leading object, to wit, the support of the families of the volunteers from this county.

&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;it is some time since I have wrote to you and I thought take this oportunity to do so I am laying at Louisville in the Barracks not fit for duty I am just able to get around and help myself  we started from the regment with the expectations of coming home but they would not let us pass here on the paper that the doctor gave us  we are waiting for an examingation but I do not know as we will get it  I never will be good for anything here and they might as well discharge me as not -  this is rather a hard place to lay on the floor with
&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;nothing under me but one blanket  I have such pains in my breath sometimes think I can hardly breathe and I have got such a lame back that I can hardly straiten myself up  I cannot stand it much longer here before I will be down so that I cannot help myself at all if this doctor dose not examine us to day we are agoing to see another one and all what we can do there  I hope I will get out of this before a great while as that I can come home  it is awfull lonsome here  there is plenty of company to be sure but not such as I want to associate with  I would rather be home soldiering is verry

&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Your favor of 18th inst. recd - In answer I enclose herein a few names of reliable Union men in this Co. - the list can be extended as desired I send only one or two names from each precinct in the Co. - the post office address does not always indicate precinct residence &amp;amp; in one instance "Coulterville" it is in another County - "Henry Clay" of this place is Union Candidate for Legislature in this District (composed of Randolph Monroe &amp;amp; Perry Co.) the District elect two - the other Union Candidate is Watt of Chester, Randolph Co. - Perry Co. will give from 499- to 500 majority for the Whole Ticket - National State &amp;amp; County - unless some dissensions arise among Union men - We hope to be firmly &amp;amp; harmoniously united - if so and
