By request of Dr Hardy, I inclose to you his letter, in which he applies for the office of Post Surgeon at Alton. I have know the Dr from the time he was a mere lad in Alton. He has been in the Practice about 12 years, has been about as successful in curing and killing, as the other Allopathists of the place, and I should take him to be about as well fitted for the station he seeks, as any one of our other M.D's are. He has a Diploma, and is ready to submit to an examination by the State Board. The Dr is a Democrat, but supports the Union Ticket, and will be of service in the canvas.
