I have delayed it so long that Pennsylvania's quota of Officers is very nearly filled up, and it cannot be brought unless immense pressure is brought to bear.  You know I was wounded in the left knee and crippled around about five months and then resigned being almost ashamed to receive Govmt pay without rendering an equivalent service, and then I was taken with bronchitis which has incapacitated me from performing the duties of Clerk in the Arsenal at this City – a position which I now

&lt;hr /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;hold and endeavor to fill to the best of my ability.  I have the recommendations of my Regmtl, Brigade, &amp;amp; Division Commanders, have passed the examination of the Board of Enrollment in my District,   I expect to get four out of five of the congressmen in my County, which along with Gov Curtin's &amp;amp; Hon I Cameron's influence I expect to be able to make the wind blow   I served as Capt of Co F 72d Regmt P.V. twenty two months and was in all the battles with McClellan from Ball's Bluff (through the Peninsula) to Antietam and now that I am unable to make a livelihood from wounds and disease. I desire some active (light) service (as my Doctor prescribes) to see if I cannot regain strength and health. You will therefore confer a great favor on me (which

our Wishes the Ohio boys sent a
petition from Philadelpha to Gover
Tod and he had them all to
Camp Dennison in a few days
and they transfer they Ohio boys
from heare to any place they
want to go in thare Own State
whare thare is a Hospital thare
is some of our boys heare at

be a poor thing for a Sick man
to go clear from heare to Illinois
and pay out two or three months
wages that has a family to keep

could have our folks come and See
us if we couldent get home but

&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;My Husband inlisted in the united states service last fall in the 128th Reg of Ill vol infantry the reg has been in confusion &amp;amp; officers discharged and a no of the privates has abandoned the county my husband among the Rest I wish to no if a substitute will answer in his place I can procure one the soldiers is threatning to distroy his propity if I Do not produce my Husband a thing that is out of my Power I can get a man in his stead but not him he has been gone for some time I no not whare if a substitute can be accepted I most earnestly beg a mediate answer

&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Dear Sir  Can you not get authority from Washington to raise a Negro Regt. in this state?  We could raise part of it here in a short time, if we had authority &amp;amp; the men could be promptly mustered &amp;amp; then fed &amp;amp; clothed.  
&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There are a great many Negroes here who dare not stay for fear of being kidnapped, We cant protect them, they would make good soldiers and would then be beyond the reach of Copperhead Malignity and would be of use to the country.  They are
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;hr /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;carrying off Negroes from here at night on [speculation?] &amp;amp; putting  them in jail in Palmyra  Mo &amp;amp; other places, as I am informed.  Why should not these men be made soldiers of. Nearly 1/3 of Gov. Andrews Mass. Regt so called was raised here out of our refugees.
&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We can find excellent officers for them if you will get permission to raise them, they will be [most?] useful &amp;amp; less trouble than at present
