The present draft is driving off many Copperheads, while our recent successes are drawing over to us many of the better portion of the opposition. With a little effort, and the return of our soldiers, we can carry Morgan and Menard Counties with respectable majorities, Cass with a small majority, (don't smile!) and greatly reduce the opposition majorities in Brown & Schuyler. Cass County is just now the best missionary field in which we have to work, and a vigorous effort would place it proudly on the side of loyalty. Hon. I had the honor and gratification to meet Col Humphreys Inspector General, then inspecting the camp, who had just investigated the only charge against Com'ry Dept. to wit: that soft or Baker's bread was not furnished, in sufficient quantities; but, the Inspector General, learning from <hr /> Comy Agt, that the troops were precipitated upon the Camp in large numbers, without notice to Com'ry Dept, he was exonerated from all blame, and a written statement to this effect was kindly approved by the Colonel.
