&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;My Family Physician and every other Physician of our place express the utmost confidence in him as a practical Surgeon 
&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I saw him at a Coroners inquest over a Body killed in drunken [Shelaly?] fight.  And to all appearances he was fully adequate to conduct the examination &amp;amp; give a minute detailed account of cause &amp;amp; effect.
&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Dr. desires to go into active service.  Wants an oportunity not only to dress the Limbs of Wounded Soldiers.

&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I want you by all means to get his Reg removed from Peoria before Election they estimate that there is from 800 to 900 Democrats in that Babcock Fulton Co. Reg.  If allowed to remain in Peoria they will obtain furlough &amp;amp; go home to vote.
&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;That will beat me, &amp;amp; also Capt. Boyd who is a Candidate for Rep. from Fulton with a fair show of election if those votes are kept away.  You must have them moved if only to Camp Butler in Alton, or Louisvill, Capt Boyd will be for you if elected.

&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;After calling upon you I saw Mr Hatch but could not find "Uncle Jesse".  I therefore left Springfield without revisiting yourself, and am so far on my way home.
&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Mr. Hatch refused to assist but not very positively.  He may be persuaded to do it yet.  I, therefore, send the subscription to O. H. Miner Esqr, who will call upon the State Officers and Mr Johnston of the firm of Messrs Johnston &amp;amp; Wright will submit the matter to the Springfield U. S. A.  If I receive aid within a week the paper will continue.  Otherwise it will stop.  I cannot afford to lose more than my time and three or four hundred dollars.  That I have done and cannot stand any further loss. If the party can afford to dispense with the aid of the Loyalist with its thousand circulation they can so decree and I will retire from the arduous and thankless contest.

&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Mr. Hatch refused to assist but not very positively.  He may be persuaded to do it yet.  I, therefore, send the subscription to O. H. Miner Esqr, who will call upon the State Officers and Mr Johnston of the firm of Messrs Johnston &amp;amp; Wright will submit the matter to the Springfield U. S. A.  If I receive aid within a week the paper will continue.  Otherwise it will stop.  I cannot afford to lose more than my time and three or four hundred dollars.  That I have done and cannot stand any further loss. If the party can afford to dispense with the aid of the Loyalist with its thousand circulation they can so decree and I will retire from the arduous and thankless contest.
