Cermak served as mayor from 1931 until his assassination in 1933. Camp Grant, located near Rockford, was a U.S. Army facility from its opening in 1917 until 1924, when it was transferred to the Illinois National Guard. House of Representatives Democratic Party (U.S.) Description An account of the resource Adlai Stevenson III served as an at-large member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1964-1967. He went on to become the state Treasurer from 1967-1970 before his successful campaign for United States Senator in 1970. He served in the United States Senate until 1981. Mrs. Herrick was born Alice Reasoner to Colonel Mathew A. Reasoner (1875-1947) and his wife Mabel (Milnor) Reasoner (1877-1964) in Alton, Illinois. General Herrick was born in North Dakota and served his professional career as an officer in the United States Army from 1931 to 1967. The Herricks are both buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. Hoffman, a native of Wheaton, Illinois, began his working life in the DuPage County Sheriff's Office in 1930. He served as the DuPage County Sheriff from 1939-1942 and again from 1947-1950. He served as deputy sheriff from 1943-1946. Elmer J. Hoffman was elected as Illinois State Treasurer in 1952, serving in this position until his election as a United States Representative in 1959.
