Cottage Hill Du Page Co Ill April 29th 1861
To Hon Richard Yates
Governor & Commander in Chief
of the Militia State of Illinois
Dear Sir
I hereby tender
my services to fill any vacancy that now
exists or may in future occur in your
Surgical Corps. I graduated in NYCity in 1852.
Since that time have been in the active
duties of the profession. You will please
find inclosed two letters from friends. I send
no reccommendations from Medical men
because I am informed that you have app
ointed a Corps of Medical Men to examine applicants
for the appointment of Surgeon in the Army
And as such men
will probably rely upon the Examination,
to decide whether a man is competant to fill
an office with honor to himself and safety
to those under his care; rather than upon
the opinion of other men whom might be personal
friends of the applicant I deem it most proper
to omit them entirely, but shall hold myself in
readinefs to appear before your medical Corps when
ever your honor may favor me with an appointment
Most Respectfully
Lyman P. Tibbetts
