Madam:
For several weeks Governor Yates has been quite ill and attention to your letter of 9th Inst. has been necessarily delayed.
He directs me to say that he will try and procure the discharge of your husband from service and will communicate with you on the subject as soon as a way can be provided to accomplish that which you have so earnestly petitioned him to do.
You may be assured that he lends a willing ear to any whose misfortunes suggest an appeal to him.
