Sir:

I have the honor to represent that Lieut. Colonel John Tillson of the 10th Regiment Ills Vols. has recently received the appointment of Captain in the 19th Regt U S Infantry

He is an efficient and valuable officer in the Volunteer service, which at this time I would regret to see him transferred from and would earnestly & respectfully request that he be permitted to hold his present position and assigned back to his rank & position in the regular service at the close of the present War. Col T. is an intimate personal friend whose interest I desire to conserve & at same time contribute to the efficiency of the command it has been my pleasure to assign him. Please reply soon & oblige –
