O.P. Morton,
Governor of Indiana,
Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter, and accompanying paper in regard to the abatement of a certain dam Erected by the State of Illinois over the Calumet river.
The Illinois and Michigan canal has been by act of our legislature, placed in the hands of Trustees, who have the control and supervision of its interests. I have referred the case to these Trustees requesting them to give it their Early attention, and to communicate with you in regard to it.
