Dear Sir:

Maj Grierson has received the appointment of Col. for the 6th Cavy. This was done upon the strong petition of nearly all the officers, and the warmly expressed desire of the men. Grierson is competent and I am sure will make a good officer. I tried at Paducah to have your appointment consented to, but the action above indicated of course, prevented it. You can however rest assured that I will try and provide for you soon.
