Hon. I. L. Hancock,

Chairman War Committee &c,

Chicago

Dear Sir:

As it is my intention to purchase about 10,000 stands of arms for the use of the Militia of the State of Illinois, and as I am informed, that you contemplate visiting New York and other eastern cities, I beg respectfully to avail myself of your kind offer to assist me in accomplishing my object.

You will place me under special obligations by making all necessary inquiry in regard to arms now in the market, specially as to

their make, quality, price &c and by communicating to me by letter or telegraph, as soon as convenient, the result of your investigations.

Sincerely thanking you for the effective services hitherto rendered to me by your Committee I sign myself,

Sir,

very respectfully yours &c
