Sir:

I am directed by His Excellency Governor Yates; to enclose to you the accompanying petition from the Commissioned Officers of the 50th Regiment Ills vols. and to beg your careful consideration of the [illegible].

The Governor desires to add his testimony also in behalf of this noble regiment, whose bravery and faithful service, has been well attested on every field, in every conflict, through which it has passed, and earnestly trusts that it may not be incompatible with the interests of the service to grant this request.
