To His Excellency,
The President,
Washington D.C.
Dear Sir:
With great pleasure I can cordially recommend James R Hosmer Esqr. of the 5th Regt Maryland Vols to the position of Asst Quartermaster of the U. S. Army, which he is desirous of obtaining. Mr Hosmer has acted in this capacity for some time in the Army of the Potomac, and I learn is in every way qualified for the position. He is a gentleman of good family, excellent education, and industrious habits. He brings recommendations to me from our mutual friends, Messrs Mark [Skinner?], Judge Willson, John L Hancock, & George C Bates, of Chicago. I
trust I am not trespassing too much upon our mutual relations, Mr President, in respectfully pressing the appointment of Mr Hosmer.
I am, Mr President,
Most Respectfully,
Your obed't. serv't,
Richd Yates
Governor
