My Dear Sir: I am in receipt of and have carefully filed your letter of 23d May for consideration when future calls of the Country require the appointment of Field Officers to new regiments

Your connection and services with the gallant Old 22nd are well known to me and I am personally obliged for the proud record you have at all times maintained for the regiment and have been gratified to hear of the estimation in which you are held by officers with and under whom you have served. I wish you would supply me with history of movements of yr regt from its organization
