Gov Yates.
Dear Sir
I hasten to write you a line informing you that I should like the appointment of Adjutant in our regiment as I was run on the ticket for Major and owing to the jelousey of Jim Caleway and strong opposition from every quarter I rejoice that I made a good race. I don't wish to be beat out by such men if I can be sustained by you. As it is reported that you appointed Bill Marshall to this position who knows nothing about millitary affairs. if you can doe anything here or give me a situation somewhere else it will be long remembered by me.
