Mr. Richard Yates, Gov of Ill
Dear Sir, I take this way of asking a request of you and pray that Your Excellency will hear me. I have a Brother and a Cousin, in Camp Butler, that has been there ever since the middle of Jan. They enlisted as soldiers in Company H 11th Ill Cavalry, the Regiment at that time were at Vicksburg, and the boys were kept at Springfield untill an opportunity would present itself for sending them to the Regt. The Regt. have come back to Springfield and enlisted as a veteran Regt and are now home on furlough. Brother and Cousin had not been sworn into the U. S. Service yet, and the Colonel of the Regt could not get them a furlough.
Will you please to try to get them one if you can, Their names are Henry and Ansi Faris, and you will confer a great deal happiness on me and cause us to ever to remember you in gratitude. A Soldiers Sister,

Asks a furlough for her brother & Cousin who enlisted for 45th Cavlry in Jany last. Since when they remain in Camp Butler without being mustered in. The Regt is now home on furlough.
