Cleveland April 6th 1864.
Gov. Yates
Dear Sir
Returning home from an absence of a month I found your note announcing your willingness to aid my brother Milligan in obtaining a discharge from the Quincy hospital. You have made us very glad and more than grateful. If Milligan has not already communicated with you he will hasten to do so.
I am much elated by being distinguished among my companions as "the girl to whom the Governor sent his picture." We call it Richard, Coeur de Leon, and think the name honored by its Republican connection.
Permit me again to offer my thanks for favors we scarcely hoped to receive.
Sincerely & gratefully Yours, Penessa C. Reed
