Govenor Yates Dear Sir
I John Porter had too Sons Enlisted in The 39 Regiment of Illinois Volunteers in Company H after remaining there Some time They took one of them from his Company and put him in Company C and then he became contrary and would not obey orders and then they courtmarshaled him during the balance of his time in The service They have taken four months pay him which was due at the time of his imprisonment and he wrote to me that he wanted me to write to you and ask you if they can take his pay from him and also to ask you if you could not do something in regard to releasing him from his present condition
it is his request that I shal draw his pay as he had always sent his money home ever since he had enlisted I will send you the charges and specifications against him and hope if you can that you will release him please write and tell me what you can do immediately I am your obedient Servant
