tomorrow I shall have the pleasure of sending you the set of Horse equipments ordered by Mr Sarmiento I had expected to have sent theam sooner but was disappointed in Consequence of Sickness
You will be much pleased I am sure as they are very handsome I Expect to be in Springfield on the 10th or 11th of this month to see if I can get a contract for making the Infantry accoutrements for your state I would beg to state that I am now & have been for a Long making much work & Horse Equipment for the United States Government and they say no one makes the work better & but few make it as good this is much to my credit coming from the Cheif of ordnance & all the officers of the army and I can also refer you to General George B McClellan
who I have made work for many years & I am the original getter up of his pattern Equipments - & have made some thousands of sets for the government & I am now filling an order to Equip the troops - I have made Large numbers of Infantry accoutrements for the United States Government & fully understand the work & Quality - and I shall tomorrow send a sample of my work which I propose to make for your state I beleave I can do better by you than any other House. Your Kind Influance with the Commissionners in my behalf which I know is very great it confer a great favour on me. I am sure that Genl McClellan would do all in his power to get me the order & I shall endeavour to get him write you or the Commissioners on the subject I shall take the Liberty of Calling on you & I trust you will pardon me for so doing if any of your staff should require Equipment I should be glad to fill the orders or any order you may have for Harness saddle &C I am honerd in your Obt Servant Saml R Phillips
