Executive Department
Springfield June 8. 1861
Hon. F. P. Blair
Dear Sir
Permit me to introduce to you Capt. O. L. Mann of Chicago. His company is one of a Regiment raised in Chicago some six weeks or more. They are well drilled and I am informed really a splendid Regiment. They are very anxious to enter the United States Service. I should apply directly to Mr Lincoln or Cameron but they say Illinois has already recd more than her quota. It has occurred to me to write you and inquire whether there is not some way in which you can aid me in getting This Regiment into the United States Service. Could it not be got in, in the quota to which Missouri is entitled, or be applied for by you to Govt as necessary to defend the Arsenal, or in some other way.
I feel an interest in This Regi
ment, composed of the best men, spiling for a fight, and unwilling to disorganize disband after six weeks drilling &c.
If you could assist me in the premises I would be grateful to you.
Truly Yours
Rich. Yates
