In answer to your letter of the 10th. ulto. I would say that it is the law and order of the War Department that all enlisted men shall serve "three years from the date of muster unless sooner discharged" I have made frequent applications to the War Dept in similar

to have the term of service changed to that of the unexpired term, but have as many times been unsuccessful.

I would cheerfully grant the application were it in my power.
