Comdg 72d Regt Ills Vols
Colonel!
I am informed that the Chaplaincy in your regiment is now vacant, and without any disposition to dictate to you as to your Officers I desire to commend to you and your Officers a most worthy Christian minister Rev S A Kingsberry, for three years Chaplain of the old 17th Regiment and mustered out only at the expiration of the term of service of his regiment.
Mr Kingsberry is a minister of ripe
experience and the highest intellectual and theological endowments and is a most patriotic and earnest man, and a most effectual supporter of the State and National Government.
It will gratify me to give Mr Kingsberry the appointment if you see proper to recommend him, and know he will render you entire satisfaction.
Very Respectfully
Your Obed't Servt
Rich Yates
