Dear Sir:
I would respectfully recommend for promotion to the rank of Captain and A A General, Lieut Wm Kuhn of the 47th Illinois Volunteers.
Lieut Kuhn has been in the service over three years and his entire career as an officer has been satisfactoral, to his commanding officer to his Brigade and regiment and to the Governor of his State.
He bears with him the strongest testimonials
that he is a gallant, brave and trustworthy officer and has done yeoman service in the cause and is an upright and honorable young gentleman in civil life.
He has for the past year been serving as A. General on Staff of Brig Genl Dennis, and has shown himself capable and efficient, and has the name of an energetic and vigorous officer who is wholly devoted to the cause.
I earnestly hope he may be promoted and returned to duty, which will give complete satisfaction and be a recognition of the valuable service he has rendered his country and would be greatfully remembered by
Your Obedt Servt.
