To his Exellency Gov. Richard Yates. -
Sir
Having the honor to be commander in chief of the artillery at Camp Defiance I take the liberty to excuse myself for not having been able to make my personal appearance before you in consequence of being overwhelmed with work at this post. Yet without having the honor of your aquaintance I take the liberty to introduce to you my countryman Mr. Hugo Holtam the bearer of these lines an experienced officer in the Hungarian Cavalry, and would beg you to aid him in his patriotic organization project for the benefit of the country
I have Sir the honor to be
your obedient servant -
