Dear Sir
The following is a true Statement of facts in relation to the treatment I have recieved from Col C C Marsh comanding the twentieth Ill. V. on July fifth I asked Col Marsh for a Furlough for a few days untill my Eyes & throath got Better I told him if I felt Better I would return on Monday the Eight he gave me leave of absence on those terms I went to Jerseyvill the regiment got Marching Orders the Same Evening that I left
Col Marsh never notified me of the change in the camp of my regiment I returned to Alton on Monday they having left I had no money to pay my way to the arsnal I returned to Jerseyvill that Same Night and Borrowed Some money to pay my way with I arrived at they arsnal On tuesday reported myself to Col Marsh a few minutes later Capt Pullen came to me and told me that I was removed and a Sergant appointed in my place and reffered me to Col Marsh I Saught Col Marsh asked him about it he told me he removed me By authority from head Quarters I told Col Marsh I would go to Springfield and See the Governor I went & your Honor was not at home I met Capt Pitcher who told me to return to my regiment
as Soon as possible and report myself for duty which I have done Col Marsh still refuses to let me do my duty untill the Commissions arrive If your Honnor wish it I can get all the officers in the regiment to Sign this Statement I started at the call of my country not for office or Gain the Company choose to Ellect me their First Lieutenant as Such I have Served them as Such they are willing for me to Sirve still if your Excellency will have a Commision made out for me Col Marsh never Disapproved of any of my acts to my Knowledge Believing & having Full confidence in your Excellency's doing that which is right & just I Leave my Future Welfare or a miserable Life in your hands your Humble Servant
